Issue 7 Preview by Boomtown

 posted by: Arnie on Wednesday, May 31 @ 4:12 pm

Jakob Paulsen, also known as "Ventura", wrote up an awesome preview of what's to come for the 7th Issue.

The next free expansion for City of Heroes/Villains, Issue 7, is extremely close to being released, but the developers took a few hours out of their busy schedules in order to take a couple of journalist for a spin in the new PVP zone, Recluse's Victory. The zone is very unique as it features changing zone graphics depending on the outcome of the battle between heroes or villains.

We joined up with lead developer Matt Miller (aka. Positron) and zone designer Thomas Foss (aka. Ghost Widow). They showed us the zone and the many events in it and of course battled us...

I promise that the rest is just as good, if not better!

The official site is looking for a few good screenshots for their upcoming article.

Check it out

WANTED: FOCUSED SCREENSHOTS - TSOO

You spend your days patrolling the streets of Paragon, battling it out with dastardly villains. Or perhaps you spend your evenings cruising the Rogue Isles, looking for weak fools to smack down on your rise to power. Would you like to be immortalized in the background lore?

This is a pilot project for a new way to use screenshots, and give your characters a spotlight in the City of. universe.

What We Want

An engaging screenshot of your character .

Fighting with the Tsoo.

It can be an action shot. It can be an atmospheric shot. It can be a funny or interesting shot. It cannot be a boring shot.

DO take a crisp, clean, high-res image.
DO NOT photoshop the picture (minor cropping is ok).
DO NOT include the UI
DO NOT manipulate the picture.

You MAY enter ONLY ONE screenshot, although more than one character can be featured. (For example, if CuppaJo, Arctic Sun, and Cricket were all in a Super Group, they could each enter one screenshot. Arctic's might feature only him, while Cricket's show both her character and Cuppa's, while all three characters might be in CuppaJo's shot - each player/account can only submit one screenshot . so make it sharp!).

Timeline:

Submissions can be made by emailing your screenshots (details below) from TUESDAY MAY 23th until 5:00 PM (CST) FRIDAY MAY 26th.

Submissions

* You may only enter 1 screenshot. If we see multiple entries from you, all entries may be disqualified.

* You may not manipulate or edit the shot in any way (although basic cropping is certainly allowed and encouraged for dramatic effect).

* EMAIL submissions to: cohsubmissions@plaync.com

* Screenshots MUST be JPG format, at LEAST 640 x 480 pixels (72 dpi) and MAXIMUM 1024 x 768.

* We reserve the right to re-crop or otherwise modify any pictures.

* Your submission MUST include:

- Your real name
- Age
- Address
- PlayNC Master Account name
- Game account name
- Character & server name (for all characters in the shot)

Winners:

* Finalists will be selected with an eye towards dramatic scenes/engaging action, however, the winner(s) will ultimately be chosen randomly from the finalists.

* If you aren't selected, it's likely that it's because the number of submissions is so high. If this goes well, you will have another opportunity to submit.

* Anywhere from one to four winners will be selected. Winning screenshots will be featured in a web site article.

* Winners will be identified on the page with first name, last initial, and city, and State (or country if from outside the US).

* Characters in shots will be identified by character name and server.

* Screenshots that are too dark, too small, or otherwise unclear will be disqualified.

CoH Interview with Positron

 posted by: Arnie on Tuesday, May 23 @ 1:26 pm

Boomtown has released an awesome interview with Positron. A well worth read for anyone interested in CoH/CoV.

Matt Miller is known to the City of Heroes/Villains community as Positron. He's been involved with the development of the games since the very beginning and is respected for his determination to communicate directly and regularly via the official forums. However, he recently moved a step up the career ladder and assumed the position as lead developer of the CoX games at Cryptic Studios, while Jack Emmert, the creative director, took a step back from the daily business.

Thus we wanted to know where Matt Miller will take the game and met with him during the E3 expo.

A survey about your CoX Experience

 posted by: Arnie on Friday, May 19 @ 1:57 pm

Here's what all the noise is about...

This study is a doctoral research project undertaken by Lisa Galarneau, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Screen and Media Studies at the University of Waikato in New Zealand. The study is looking specifically at social behavior related to online games with an emphasis on City of Heroes/City of Villains. In particular, the study is exploring how players achieve mastery of the game(s) through their interactions with one another and how the game environment is affected by player contributions. At the end of the survey, you will have the option of enrolling in further phases of research. The full study involves a number of phases over a period of a year, including in-game observation, the survey, and follow-up interviews.

Click below to take the survey.

I recommend everyone to go and take the survey, that is... if you've played the CoV/CoH games!

CoV players make the news

 posted by: Arnie on Tuesday, May 16 @ 12:07 am

Well, not exclusively. But a few players found within the umbrella of NCsoft have made it to the bigtime Washingtonpost.

"It sounds silly to our non-gamer friends, but when I see his hero or villain, I feel like I am looking at him. . . . His choices of appearance and powers personify him perfectly," Rhonda said in an e-mail. The couple run missions together, and at the end of the day, they put their characters in yoga position in a "safe" part of the game's world and just talk.
